- A person. Questions answered by email within one business day.
Or do it yourself, free
Register at www.ucr.gov for the government fee alone (plus the portal's own card fee, about 2.97%, or about $1 by e-check). You need your USDOT, a current MCS-150, and 10–15 minutes. Our step-by-step guide is free and asks nothing of you.
Use us when you'd rather have the count checked and the whole thing off your desk today.
Pricing questions
- Is the government fee really at cost?
- Yes. The UCR fee is set in 49 CFR Part 367 for each registration year and is identical at ucr.gov, at every state portal and here. We pass it through unchanged and show it as its own line.
- Are there card-processing or 'convenience' charges?
- No. Some state portals add about 2.97% for cards; some filers add their own. Our total is the government fee plus the service fee, full stop.
- Why does the service fee step up with the bracket?
- Larger fleets get a real review: the count you enter is checked against the MCS-150 and, where it looks off, your IRP picture — because that mismatch is exactly what state audits (FARs) look for. The review is the work; the fee follows it.
- What about 1,001 or more power units?
- The government fee alone is $54,165 in 2027. We quote those by hand so the count is right before that kind of money moves — contact us.
- What if the bracket turns out to be wrong after I pay?
- If FMCSA shows a different count we email you before filing. A lower bracket means a partial refund of the difference; a higher one means a separate payment request for the exact official difference. Nothing is filed until you confirm.
Straight talk
UCR Assist is an independent, privately owned filing service. We are not the UCR Plan, FMCSA, the U.S. DOT or any state agency. You can register yourself at the official portal, www.ucr.gov, for the government fee alone. We charge a service fee for doing it for you, checking the vehicle count first, and keeping the receipt where you can find it.
