How to Check Your UCR Status (and What Inspectors See)

Where to verify a UCR registration for free, what the lookup shows, why no sticker or cab card is required, and why you should never check status through a link in an email.

Where to check (free)

  1. www.ucr.gov — search by USDOT number (“Check UCR status”).
  2. FMCSA SAFER — the company snapshot.
  3. CVIEW — the state system inspectors use; not public, but it reads the same data.

What you'll see

The company name and the years for which UCR is paid. The lookup shows two years. If the current year isn't there, you are not registered for it — whatever a letter in your mailbox says.

What inspectors see

At a weigh station or roadside stop, the officer runs your USDOT number. The record either shows the current year paid or it doesn't. No sticker, card or certificate is required; under 49 U.S.C. 14506 states may not demand one. Carrying the receipt is optional.

One caution

Never check your status through a link in an email or letter that says your UCR has expired, and don't type your USDOT into a third-party “status check” box. Open ucr.gov yourself. See scams and look-alike sites.
